Helpful navigation tips for our site: REFRESH: We update frequently so be sure to refresh your browser to see any changes. TIME STAMP: On the upper left there is usually a date and time showing when the page was created or updated. CHECK BOTTOM OF PAGE: If you see a recent date, that indicates something new is on the page and often it will be added to the BOTTOM OF THE PAGE. (that's because it is much easier to simply add it to the bottom as compared to moving dozens of photos and text boxes to make room at the top of a page). ENLARGE PHOTOS: Almost all photos will expand when you click on them. Those that have a plus sign when you hover your cursor over the photo can be enlarged even further. YELLOW LINKS: Links are almost always in YELLOW unless I just happen to miss doing that. Otherwise they will be the standard blue color. SITE MAP: It's your friend! I've been adding pages to this site for years and it has become a monster. But, it is a manageable monster. It's easy to get lost and confused and the site map will likely help you find your way back home. Look for site map links on the upper right of most pages. I've also added it to most navigation bars as well as the 'go to' drop-down menu. "GO TO": Almost every page has a 'go to' drop down menu with a link to home, the site map, and most of my other presences on the web such as ebay, flickr, twitter, zazzle, etc. |
This is a smoky quartz crystal on feldspar crystals from Zomba, Malawi. #1028. One crystal has a very large fuchsite mica crystal inclusion. The mica crystal inclusion is so large that you won't have to hunt for it. In fact, you can see the inclusion from FIVE FEET AWAY! Yes, I checked. It being mica, which is very reflective, certainly helped. The inclusion measures 5/16" x 5/16" (8mm x 8mm) and is an excellent mica crystal with leafed mica book form. It even has blades sticking out almost perpendicular to the main crystal. In the photos you can see that it is very three-dimensional. It reminds me very much of the great fuchsite mica from Hiddenite, North Carolina. It has a brilliant emerald green color. The smoky crystals themselve are very odd (but in a very good way). This has depressed triangular shapes on the termination faces that are called "record keepers". The curious thing about these is that they are upside down and I can't recall ever seeing any that were pointing in the opposite direction of the termination faces. There are also many tiny ones that are upside down, but are slightly raised instead of being depressions. This is a fantastic specimen and I believe that you would be hard pressed to find a similar one of any quality, much less one as fine as this. These photos were taken in full direct sunlight and some are very highly enlarged to show the fine details of this specimen. Please note that the photos display larger than life on your computer screen. Size: overall size is 2 1/2" w x 1 3/4"d x 1 5/8" tall or in metric 6.3 x 4.6 x 4.2 cm. The quartz (which sits at an angle) is 2" tall x 7/8" x 1 1/16" or in metric 5.1 x 2.3 x 2.7 cm. The mica inclusion measures 5/16" x 5/16" or in metric 0.8 x 0.8 cm. Weight: 3.0 ounce / 86 grams. |
Record keepers on the termination faces. The ones shown are depressed, but there are also tiny raised record keepers that are too small to see in these photos. The odd thing about this is that they are upside down Record keepers. |
